Life as of late.

I can’t believe the last time that I wrote on the blog was almost a month ago. It feels as thought I just pushed publish on the last post.

A little that has been happening..

– I celebrated yet another birthday. This one brings me into the next category of life. I went from one age bracket to another. It is a year older that has me thinking about where I am in my life and what is coming up next.

– Mr. Sweet and I went on a glorious vacation to Mexico. I think of our time there everyday and wish we could go back. I miss the sunsets, beaches and laid back atmosphere.

– We are in the process of looking for a new place to live. We love our little apartment but it is getting a bit small for our liking and we are hoping to find something bigger with a backyard. So far the search isn’t going well. So many places are either too expensive, not in the area we are looking for or don’t allow pets.

– An injury that I have had for a while flared up during our Mexican vacation. When we returned to the States I realized it wasn’t something that I could continue to push off and went to see my doctor. I am scheduled for surgery this Thursday and freaking out.

Well, enough rambling out of me. After surgery I will have plenty of time to write and hope to get back on track. Chat with ya later!

Observations of a bear.

“Prey” is about Angie Powell, a mountain guide, who is hired by Chad Krugman to take him and his boss on a bear hunting trip. When Chad turns out to have an alternative purpose for going on the hunting trip, Angie finds herself being chased down the mountain by a psychotic killer and a bear in a violent storm. Luckily for her, Angie’s business competitor and fellow mountain guide, Dare Callahan, is also camping on the mountain nearby and comes to her rescue. Angie soon finds herself falling for him despite the fact that his business is the one who will soon put her out of business.

I borrowed this book from the library because I was in the mood for romantic suspense. This is the first Linda Howard book I’ve read in years; and judging by its quality, I will think twice about picking up another one of hers. There was page after page of endless, mindless detail about every thought that went through every character’s mind. She even had the observations of the bear. Yes, you read that right..the bear. The chapter’s felt long and drawn out. It also takes nearly 1/2 the book to get to the point.

If you are a fan of Linda Howard’s and looking to waste time you can read this book. If not, find something else.

Popcorn is always a good idea.

Mr. Sweet and I love a good snack. Popcorn is always simple and easy to make. A blank slate for other flavorings and extras. Give a little bag away as a party gift, make a large bowl for a movie or just for a light snacking. Popcorn is always a good idea.

Above are a couple I have been eyeing:

Crunchy Caramel Popcorn
Samoa Popcorn
S’mores Popcorn

Well butter my biscuit!

I have never made a homemade biscuit. I meant to a million times but decided against it at the last minute for a package biscuits. Don’t judge me; you know you have done it too!

I have heard stories on the secret to tender, flaky biscuits. When to put the butter in, when to cut the butter into the flour, how you need to work quickly so the butter doesn’t melt too much, don’t over mix the dough or use this flour or this type of butter.

I never knew what to do.

So after a long search, I found a recipe via Pinterest by Mom on Timeout. It looked amazing, easy and I had exactly what I needed at home. So into the kitchen I went and whipped up a batch. They were delicious, soft and doughy inside with a light flake on the outside. Everyone gobbled them up. This is definitely a recipe that I am going to come back to time and time again.

Delightfully Living: Day 187– Day 192

365 photo project – the simple act of taking a picture every day for a year. The idea behind starting the project is for me to try to get myself to slow down and take a different look at the world. The series is called Delightfully Living. This is Day 187 – 192.

What you will see: moments of time, food, details of the world around me and things that I enjoy.

Day 187: Dinner with family. This salad was so good that I want it everyday.

Day 188: Layla relaxing.

Day 189: First day I missed. So sad!

Day 190: We had an ice cream social at work. I had chocolate and strawberry.

Day 191: Tried to go to bed and someone took my spot. Pillow and all.

Day 192: New pint from a friend. I love mustaches!

Under the Dome

I bought Stephen King’s novel “Under the Dome” when it first came out, but it has been gathering dust on my bedroom side table. The book is over 1,000 pages long and I just couldn’t bring myself to make such a commitment to start it (even thought I did buy it so it was a bit of a commitment there). Once I heard that the novel was coming to a television near me I knew I had to dig my heals in a read it.

“Under the Dome” is a story of a small town in Maine called Chester Mills that one day is suddenly cut off from the rest of the world with an enormous transparent dome. No one can come in, no one can get out. Is this some kind of government experiment? Aliens? A natural disaster?

The development of the Dome environment, the physical and mental mechanics of isolation from the world, is compelling. Sanity and resources gradually begin to shrink and we see the destructive nature of the community within. The novel boasts a large cast of characters that are sometimes hard to keep track of. King does his best to show the situation from as many characters as possible.

Stephen King never fails to entertain me. Now that I have finally finished the book I am looking forward to watching the show (which I have been DVRing) to see just how the characters appear in real life.
